New Year, Big Plans!
We at C3-Twenty20 Cycling Company hope all of you had a wonderful holiday, and hope you all have had a great start to the new year. We’ve been really busy gearing up for the most critical part of our season – the national championships. C3 has been riding the wave of success lately, and can hopefully carry that momentum into Madison next week. Here’s the scoop on what we’ve been up to since our last report.
The mid-Atlantic Cyclocross (MAC) series is always a big target for us, both for individual titles and the team title. The final round of the MAC series was held December 9 in Emmaus, PA, with epic ‘cross conditions – cold, muddy and messy. Arley Kemmerer was well within striking distance to take the overall series win, and was forced to leave the Supercross Cup UCI event in NY to vie for the win. She took a commanding victory in the Women’s Elite field, and was able to take the entire series to be crowned the new Women’s Elite MAC Champion. Stephen Cummings battled former team member Weston Schempf (Haymarket- SEAVS) for the lead all day long. Cummings out-rode Schempf in the technical elements to get a gap, but Schempf would somehow manage to close the gap every time until the final lap. It became a race of attrition, and Cummings was able to step on the gas and pull away from Schempf one final time for the victory. Sam O’Keefe held strong, finishing just off the podium in 4th place. With such a strong showing in the final round, C3 was able to take the overall victory in the MAC Team Championship!
While much of the team migrated to PA for the final round of the MAC Series, Laura Van Gilder contested both days of the UCI Supercross Cup in East Meadow, NY. Kemmerer and Van Gilder duked it out on Day 1 of the event, with the pair establishing a significant lead on the rest of the field. It once again came down to a sprint, with Van Gilder taking home the victory. Van Gilder was able easily snag the victory on Day 2 of the event, netting major UCI points. Sam O’Keefe had a killer ride on Day 1 of Supercross Cup, finishing 13th just behind big names like Adam Myserson (SmartStop/Mountain Khakis) and Dan Chabanov (Richard Sachs).
Our grassroots teammates have been tearing up the local scene as well. We’ve added several new grassroots members in the last month, and our colors are popping on the podium across the categories. Jen Tillman just netted her first W 1/2/3 victory at Ed Sander Memorial CX in Adamstown, MD. Kris Auer scored the win in the Singlespeed category, and Sam O’Keefe hit the podium in 3rd place.
We’ll be loading up to hit the road again this week, this time at the Chicago Cyclocross Cup UCI event. The forecast calls for 34-degree temperatures, but factoring in the 20-25mph winds, expecting a windchill of 10 degrees. Sweet! At least it will be too cold for rain! Arley Kemmerer and Sam O’Keefe will be flying the C3 colors in the Elite fields, and will be going onward to Madison to meet up with the rest of our crew.
Look for updates on Twitter and Facebook to get the latest and greatest on what we’re up to. Wish us luck!
